Chapter 01 · Rooted in Edinburg

From humble beginnings

Karla's parents came to Edinburg from immigrant and migrant roots, carrying little more than a willingness to work. They bought land here, built a life on it, and never left.

The barbershop and the daycare

Her father owned Hector's Barbershop for more than 50 years. Her mother operated Little People Daycare. One block at a time, one family at a time, their work stitched them into the everyday life of this city.

Decades of service

Generations of Edinburg families sat in that barber chair and walked through that daycare door. What Karla's parents built was never just a business. It was a promise to be useful to their neighbors.

What they taught her

Hard work. Humility. Integrity. Faith. Service. Karla carries those five values into every classroom she has taught in, and she will carry them into every board decision.

My parents taught me that true success is not measured by what you accumulate, but by the lives you touch and the legacy you leave behind.

Chapter 03 · Why She Is Running

In her own words.

Dr. Karla signing official paperwork at a desk

I am running because every student deserves someone who believes in them, every teacher deserves support, and every family deserves a district that puts children first.

Education changed my life. It carried me from a barbershop family in Edinburg to a doctorate, and it taught me what becomes possible when someone refuses to give up on a student.

I am running independently, to serve students, educators, families, and this community. I want every Edinburg student to believe their dreams are within reach.
